Preservation Deep Plane Facelift

A Preservation Deep Plane Facelift is a surgical procedure designed to lift and reposition the facial tissues, restoring a youthful and rejuvenated appearance. The skin and underlying tissues lose volume and elasticity, which becomes most noticeable in the face. This can lead to deep folds, lines, and shadows.

The Preservation Deep Plane Facelift addresses these visible signs of aging in the face and neck, including:

  • Sagging in the midface

  • Deep creases below the lower eyelids

  • Nasolabial folds (deep lines extending from the nose to the corners of the mouth)

  • Loss of facial fat volume

  • Loss of skin tone in the lower face, leading to jowls

This technique offers a more natural, refreshed look by preserving facial volume and expression while improving the contours of the face and neck.

Procedure Overview

Consultation

Your journey begins with a consultation with Dr. Jaggi, where you’ll have the opportunity to discuss your goals, ask any questions, and determine whether the Preservation Deep Plane Facelift is the right procedure for you. Dr. Jaggi will evaluate your facial structure, discuss your expectations, and explain the procedure in detail to ensure you’re fully informed.

Surgery Day

Anesthesia:
The Preservation Deep Plane Facelift is typically performed under general anesthesia, ensuring you are completely comfortable and relaxed throughout the procedure.

Incision:
Dr. Jaggi makes an incision that starts from the hairline above the ear, extends down around the ear, and then goes up into the hairline behind the ear. This incision provides access to the deeper layers of facial tissue, allowing for precise surgical work.

Dissection:
Dr.Jaggi will enter a plane beneath the SMAS layer, keeping the skin and muscle connected as much as possible to preserve blood supply, reduce trauma and potentially speed recovery.

Lifting & Repositioning:
Dr. Jaggi then lifts and repositions the facial tissues, repositioning the fat pads in the cheeks, lifting the jowls, and tightening the neck muscles. This restores a youthful appearance with natural, balanced contours.

Closure:
Once the lifting and repositioning are complete, Dr. Jaggi will carefully re-drape the skin and close the incisions with precision to minimize scarring.

The average duration of the procedure is 4 to 6 hours. After the surgery, a cotton dressing will be applied around the face and neck to support your recovery.

Facelift Recovery

  • Pain: Pain is typically well managed with a facelift, but there may be some discomfort and tightness, especially in the first few days up to a week.

  • Drains: You will have a small drain that will be removed on post-op day 1.

  • Swelling: Maximum swelling occurs 48-72 hours post-surgery and begins to subside on the fourth or fifth post-operative day.

  • Bruising: You may experience bruising on day 3-5, usually resolving in the first two weeks.

  • Driving: You can resume driving when you are able to drive at the same level you were able to drive at pre-operatively…and this is your call. You’ve got to be able to brake and respond quickly, as well as quickly and easily turn to eliminate your blind spot. When these conditions are met you may resume driving…typically the second or third week post-surgery.

  • Social Return: Downtime for most patients is 2-3 weeks, depending on your comfortability in a social setting. Most of our patients will return to work and normal activities after 3 weeks.

  • Numbness: Some numbness may be present for up to 18 months, sometimes longer in a facelift, especially around your ear where the incisions are.

Preparing for Your Surgery

Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements as they can increase bleeding. Avoid eating or drinking after midnight the  night prior to your procedure. Please arrange for a responsible adult to take you and pick you up from your surgery and stay with you for the first 24 hours after surgery.
