What is Belkyra?
Belkyra is the only Health Canada Approved, permanent injectable aesthetic treatment that targets and eliminates fat cells below the chin.
How does Belkyra work?
Deoxycholic acid is a natural occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. Belkyra targets and eliminates fat cells when injected into the area under your chin.
How is Belkyra administered?
A series of micro-injections are given in a grid pattern under the chin area.
How many treatments are required?
Treatments are customized for each patient. Two treatments are the minimum recommendation, however depending on the patients needs it can take up to six treatments. Treatments are typically spaced one month apart.
What is the expected recovery time?
Downtime is minimal and occurs most commonly after the first treatment. When scheduling, you should keep your social plans and work commitments in mind.
How long will the procedure take?
It typically takes 15-30 minutes for the procedure.
What should I expect on treatment day?
Prior to treatment ice/cold packs are applied to the area. You can take an over the counter pain reliever prior to treatment if you wish. (Tylenol or Advil) The treatment area is marked out in a grid pattern, & the micro-injections are given. You can expect mild burning for the first 15-20 minutes post injection. This discomfort decreases rapidly, with application of ice immediately post treatment.
Will I experience any side effects?
The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, pain and numbness. The effect of swelling is a side effect we want to see, as this shows the procedure is working. These side effects most often decrease with subsequent treatments.
How long does Belkyra last?
Your appearance will gradually improve after each session. Once your goal is achieved retreatment is not expected.
