An extended deep plane facelift is a surgical procedure that involves lifting and repositioning the facial tissues to create a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.
As a person ages, they experience a loss of volume and elasticity in the skin and underlying tissues. This is most noticeable in the face, where it can result in deep folds, lines and shadows. A facelift, is a surgical procedure that improves the visible signs of aging in the face and neck. These signs can include:
- Sagging in the middle of your face
- Deep creases below the lower eyelids
- Deep creases along the nose extending to the corner of the mouth
- Fat that has fallen or has disappeared
- Loss of skin tone in the lower face that creates jowls
General Overview
Consultation: A consultation with Dr. Jaggi will provide the opportunity to have all your questions answered and determine whether an extended deep plane facelift is the right procedure for you.
Surgery Day
Anesthesia: The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation.
Incision: Dr.Jaggi will make an incision that extends from the hairline above the ear, down around the ear, and then up into the hairline behind the ear. This incision allows him to access the deeper layers of facial tissue.
Dissection: Dr.Jaggi will carefully separate the facial tissues from the underlying muscles and fascia. The dissection is carried out to a deeper level than in a traditional facelift, allowing for greater lifting and repositioning of the facial tissues.
Lifting & Repositioning: Dr.Jaggi will lift and reposition the facial tissues to create a more youthful appearance. This may involve repositioning the fat pads of the cheeks, lifting the jowls, and tightening the neck muscles.
Closure: Once the lifting and repositioning is complete, Dr.Jaggi will carefully re-drape the skin and close the incisions.
The average duration of a facelift surgery is 4 to 6 hours. At the end of the procedure, a cotton dressing is applied around the face and neck as well as a specialized facelift garment.
Facelift Recovery
During your facelift recovery, a bandage will be around your face to minimize swelling and bruising once your procedure is completed. Thin tubes will be present to drain any excess blood or fluid that may collect under the skin. These will be removed on Post–Op Day 7.
It will take anywhere between 2 – 3 weeks to recover from facelift surgery. It is important that the surgical incisions are not subjected to excessive force, abrasion, or motion during the time of healing. Avoid wearing any clothing that must go over your head.
Dr. Jaggi will provide you with specific instructions that will include how to care for the surgical site and drains, medications to aid healing and reduce the potential for infection, specific concerns to look for at the surgical site or in your general health and when to follow up with our clinic.
As the swelling and bruising subside, the visible improvements of a facelift appear. The final result should not only provide a more youthful and rested appearance, but also help the patient feel more confident about themselves.
Although good results are expected from your procedure, there is no guarantee. In some situations, it may not be possible to achieve optimal results with a single surgical procedure and another surgery may be necessary.
Following Dr. Jaggi's instructions is essential to the success of your surgery. Also, life-long sun protection and a healthy lifestyle will help extend the results of your rejuvenated, more youthful appearance.
